Overview

The MBBS Program at the University of Adelaide provides students with state of the art education and training to enable them, as graduates, to practise medicine in the 21st Century. The three major ‘streams’ of the course are the core elements of medical practice: the Scientific Basis of Medicine, Clinical Skills and Medical Professional and Personal Development.

These three streams form the basis of an integrated case-based program in Years 1 – 3. Throughout Years 4 – 6, students will expand their knowledge, experience and skills within these three streams as they undertake placements within the teaching hospitals and in the broader medical community.

Admissions

Entry Level

Undergraduate
An undergraduate course is an entry level course at university. Most students go from year 12, but you can also apply as a mature age student, or have done an enabling course or previous study at TAFE. You can also do an undergraduate course if you have already done a degree, but in a different field. In medicine, undergraduate courses are 5 or 6 years long.

Entry Criteria

Based on academic marks, your performance in the UMAT and an interview.

Preparation Course

The University Preparatory Program (UPP) is a program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students offered by the University of Adelaide.

Karnkanthi Indigenous Education Program: Karnkanthi (meaning ‘lifting up’ in Kaurna language) is a new pathway, education and development program at The University of Adelaide for high-achieving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 11 and 12/13.

Pathways

Indigenous Entry Pathway

Yes, the University of Adelaide has an Indigenous Entry Program. Please refer to the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Access Scheme link for more information. Applicants are assessed by Wirltu Yarlu in conjunction with Faculty/School staff. Students are selected on the basis of their written application; literacy & numeracy test results and results of a selection interview.

In addition, a popular entry point for those who miss out on being accepted into medicine is to study a Health Science Degree for their first year at university, and if they receive high enough marks, can apply to medicine the following year.
