The Australian Indigenous Health and Cultural Competency Online Portal project will create a web-based portal to link and/or house the professional development and learning opportunities of the medical colleges pertaining to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competency and cultural safety training. While in the first instance the primary target audience will be specialists, trainees and International Medical Graduates working in rural and remote areas of Australia, the portal will also allow general access by medical students and allied health workers.

The Portal is a collaborative project between the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), the Australian College of Dermatologists and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Funded by the Australian Government through the Rural Health Continuing Education program, the projects aim to provide easier access to educational resources, and ensure that these resources meet the aims and standards of the Committee of Presidents of Medical Colleges National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Curriculum Framework.

The RACS has the primary responsibility for developing the project and working with stakeholders. A steering committee, with representation from the specialist colleges, the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation has been established to oversee and guide the design of the portal.
