Best Practice Approaches to Supporting Indigenous Health Academics
The LIME Network Reference Group have developed best practice approaches to support Indigenous Health Academics in medical schools. This document draws primarily on the Australian Medical Council Standards for Accreditation and principles from CDMAS Indigenous Health Curriculum Framework. It aims to provide guidance around best practice for Indigenous academics and their supervisors and could be utilised in annual performance reviews or other discussions about roles and responsibilities. Medical Deans Australia and New Zealand Inc. Executive Committee endorsed this document in January 2020.

The LIME Network Reference Group is an important forum for peer support. It provides the opportunity for sharing knowledge and experience, reflecting on work practices and workplace environments, and supports collaboration and relationship-building. In this way it aims to contribute to professional development and capacity building of its members. The objective of this orientation and peer support statement is to provide LIME Reference Group members, and potentially a wider group of Indigenous health educators, some clear frameworks around values for the peer networking and support opportunities available through the Network.

The LIME Network Reference Group have developed specific guidelines, relevant to the LIME Network, regarding authorship recognition of LIME related publications, and a Group Orientation and Peer Support Statement. The purpose of developing a specific authorship policy is to provide guidelines for authorship of research and publications developed within the scope of the LIME Network program.

The LIME Network Reference Group is an important forum for peer support and mentoring for those involved in the teaching and learning of Indigenous health at medical schools across Australia and New Zealand. It provides the opportunity for sharing knowledge and experience, reflecting on work practices and workplace environments, and supports collaboration and relationship-building. In this way it aims to contribute to the professional development and capacity building of its members.
This document sets out a proposal for a structured approach that will provide medical schools the opportunity to engage members of the LIME Network Reference Group as external reviewers who can provide feedback, advice and expertise regarding their Indigenous health initiatives. It aims to formalise the sharing of expertise and advice that has been regularly undertaken by LIME Reference Group members.
