Colonisation has caused extensive disruption to Aboriginal People’s lives and particularly in South Eastern Australia where a high level of cultural genocide has ensued. Despite this, Aboriginal People have determinedly maintained and strengthened Cultural practices and knowledge. An important part of this has been the reinvigoration of Cultural practices. Every unique Aboriginal Person receives a diversity of benefit from Cultural practices with increased social and emotional wellbeing most often an outcome. Here we describe the process of reinvigoration of an ancient Aboriginal Ceremony of Welcoming Babies to Country. We also explore the wellbeing impacts for everyone involved in the event.
