The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at The University of Melbourne is developing a new community-based clinical education and training model for health science students, to complement its current hospital-based model. The Community Responsiveness & Engagement through Streamed Clinical Education and Training (CRESCENT) project seeks to develop an innovative approach to clinical education that better links students with the communities in which
they learn and to whom they will provide services. This model is reliant on engaging existing health services, including Indigenous health services, in the Northern and Western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, to contribute to and participate in community-based clinical education. The CRESCENT Aboriginal Community Engagement Project is a component of this broader program, which undertook a service and mapping consultation with Indigenous health service providers in the region.
