Overview
This six year program leads to the award of the degrees of Bachelor of Medical Studies and Doctor of Medicine (BMed MD). UNSW Medicine is the only medical faculty which offers school leavers entry into an integrated undergraduate and postgraduate program. The program is highly integrated both horizontally and vertically. All courses are interdisciplinary: biomedical sciences are integrated with one another, with the social and psychological sciences and with clinical practice.
The scientific basis of medicine and clinical experience go hand in hand throughout all years of the program. Learning is student-centred, intellectually challenging and diverse in order to respond to student needs. It promotes the value of experience, reflection and personal growth. The explicit aim is to graduate lifelong learners of medicine.
Admissions
Entry Level
Undergraduate
An undergraduate course is an entry level course at university. Most students go from year 12, but you can also apply as a mature age student, or have done an enabling course or previous study at TAFE. You can also do an undergraduate course if you have already done a degree, but in a different field. In medicine, undergraduate courses are 5 or 6 years long.
Entry Criteria
Based on academic marks and the outcome of a structured interview. Completion of the UMAT is not required.
Preparation Course
A 4 week Pre-Medicine Program (PMP) is offered to all Indigenous applicants who are successful at the interview stage. Those who wish to enter via the Indigenous entry scheme must complete the 4 week PMP to be considered for acceptance into Medicine at UNSW. Participants must perform at a level deemed satisfactory by the Faculty of Medicine. Final selection for Indigenous Entry is made after the completion of the PMP.

- Applicants will be selected for a structured interview based on: demonstrated motivation to practice medicine; academic capability, including, the capacity to achieve within the UNSW Medical Program; and demonstrated ability to relate to Indigenous Health issues.

What assistance is available to me?
The Nura Gili Student Centre
The Nura Gili Student Centre provides support and information for potential and existing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at UNSW. Staff are available to assist students with administrative issues, housing, scholarships and pastoral support. The unit also manages the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) and facilitates programs to recruit and support Indigenous students at UNSW at all levels of study.
